Flipping for profit

Flipping blogs and other websites for money

Flipping websites and blogs are all about finding undervalued websites that have flaws that can be fixed quickly and easily to allow the site to be sold again for a profit. This might mean changing or moving the adds, giving the site a better layout or doing a little SEO work. What ever needs to be done it should be something that you feel that you can easily do yourself and that will be worth the time it takes to do it. Flipping might also include buying a well ranking site and adding a lot of new content to allow the site to better capitalize on the Google love it receives.

There are several ways to find websites or blogs to flip.

  • Browsing different classifieds sites where websites are sold. It is possible to make good deals on Craig list and eBay but those are a little to far in between to rely on them. Instead you need to browse marketplaces that are set up for buying and selling website. The premier market for websites is flippa.com. There are however a lot of different websites out there as well such as v7, warrior forum and forums.digitalpoint.com.
  • Looking through search results and contacting sites owners directly to buy websites with a lot of potential. This can be very profitable and you can get some nice websites to a nice price. It is however important that you realize that the majority of the websites will not be for sale and that a fair share of those that want to sell will have completely crazy expectations as to the value of their site. They often look at the time they have put into the site rather than the actual value of the site. If you are patient this can be a good way to go.
  • Look at offline classifieds. There are not that many websites sold this way but when they are they are sometimes sold at very good rates.
  • Keep track of any and all bankruptcies in the business. The bankruptcy lawyer handling the estate of small bankrupt companies might sometime be willing to sell sites for a really good price.

Once you have found and bought a website with potential it is time to get to work. Some websites will need minimal work and can be sold again within a very short time span. Other need a lot more work and time before they can be sold to get optimal results. If you can show proof of stable income it will allow you to ask for a lot higher price and it is therefore often good to have at least a six month time frame for a profitable flip. If you need money it will however often be possible able to flip quicker and earn a decent amount of money. This can sometimes be preferable to get funds to buy and improve new sites.

Improve the site to a point where it works well and look good but do not get too pedantic as there will come a point where the improvements you make wont be worth the time they take to make as their impact on the final sale price will be too low.
